The temperatures are heating up and everything is green again, must be time for a Summer break so we can take it all in!

Now that Summer is hear we have a lot of things changing up for the College Ministry.

Our Summer Classes will look like this:

Sunday Mornings in between services at 9:30 a.m. we will be diving into the book of Hebrews!  One of our Shepherds, Jerry Patton, will be teaching the class.  This will be in the College Rm in the very back of the building.  Love to have you join us whenever you get a chance!!!  Bring your Bibles!

Sunday Nights we will be having small group get together times throughout the Summer.  This will be time used to really work on areas that we are really struggling to grow in.

Wednesday Nights we will be meeting in the Auditorium of the building for a great study called Extreme Home Makeover: Heart Edition.  This will begin every week at 7 p.m.  This will address issues from struggling with depression to coming to understand what it means to be apart of a Community.  Very exciting study!

Trips:

We are currently working on our Kickoff 2 Summer Work Camp to reschedule when we will be able to do the work.  There were some setbacks due to insurance issues with rebuilding of houses lost in the tornadoes.  We hope to get this event nailed down soon and get that info up here with the new dates so you can plan accordingly.

Lazy Weekend trip is being scheduled right now as well.  This is our yearly trip to Dallas to just chill as Hurricane Harbor and ride the waves at the wave pool or ride the lazy river, whatever floats your boat really.  This has always been a fun and relaxing weekend to just chill before the craziness of school start back up.

Things to start saving for NOW:

GULF COAST GETAWAY (Panama City Beach, FL) Campus Ministry Conference - January 16-19, 2009

Yes, this does seem forever away right now (241 days at this moment).  However, this trip is the most expensive of all our trips and requires some time to collect if you haven’t ever been before.  The cost this year will be $80 per student.  This covers your hotel, conference, and 1 meal a day.  We took over 30 this past year and have to set the deadline for the 12th of November to sign up.  Please don’t wait till the last minute to get your money together for your sake!

State Campus Ministry Retreat - February 27-29, 2009

This is our yearly Spring retreat with campus ministries from all over the place.  This year WE are the Host Group, which means that we have a lot of work to do and great things to look forward to.  This is currently in the works, but will cost each student around $15-20.  That will cover all their meals and housing for the weekend.  This event doesn’t take a lot to save up for, but is definitely something to be spending much time in prayer about.

There are many other events set for the year to come, but these are the BIGGIES that have come to be known as the regulars on our schedule.  Please get these put into your calendars now and begin praying, saving, and planning to attend!

Be Blessed this Summer as you journey down some old paths and travel new ones.  May the Lord Bless you and keep you until we run into each other again!

In Him,

Seth Simmons
College Minister

You Can’t See Me - Sunday nights 5 p.m. UCC College Room
Come join in a search to figure out how to remove ourselves from the picture so that we can finally realize that it’s not about us. The world sees a lot of “me” out there and is very convincing to get you to think that it is all about “me.” We are trying to get the world to see Jesus, but in order to do something of this magnitude we have to get rid of our “me” mentality. We end each evening with time spent in prayer for each other to help us as Christians to better fulfill 2 Cor. 3:18 “And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”

Accountability Groups - Thursdays
Starting September 6th on Thursday nights we begin out small groups for the school year. This is an opportunity to get together and really get to know people spiritually as brothers and sisters. Now that everyone has jumped into their summers since we’ve gotten back from our summer Kickoff, I wanted to fill everyone in on what we have going on this summer in case you just happen to want to come back into town for any of these things.

Sunday Morning Study

Digging Deep - This is not a study on any particular book from The Word.  This is simply stated, a study on how to better dig down deep into the map that guides our paths along our journey known as Eternity.  Even though this will not be out of any particular passage, you will still need to bring your bible to find out how to apply these study habits.

Sunday Night House Church

Mentor ship - This will be an open discussion on how important it is to find great mentors and how to better become mentors to those around us.  This will be a study directed more toward understanding our calling to reach out and draw in, along with understanding how valuable our actions are in the lives of everyone around us.

Wednesday Night Study

James - This of course is a study of the Book of James.  We will try to dive as deep into this book as we possibly can.  Our Sunday morning study will aid in this study along with just reading and meditating on the great words of wisdom from each verse in the 5 chapters we know as James.

Other activities

We are planning to take a trip for everyone, including in coming students, to Hurricane Harbor in Dallas, TX.  This will be in the first part of August and the exact dates will be posted sometime in the coming weeks.

There are also trips to different churches to speak to other congregations about the campus ministry on the campus of UCA.  We will need any and all who are interested in taking part in these travels to be available on Sunday nights to travel to a wide variety of places to possibly take over their service for an evening.  Love to have anyone that would just like to go and help encourage and strike interest in the UCC Student Ministries to students who will be attending UCA in the future.

We are also going to be doing a 3 day fast before welcome week to prepare our minds for the work of the Lord for the 2007-2008 school year.  These dates will be posted soon as well.  I ask that our core leaders begin praying about this event throughout the summer.

Yes, it is getting to be that time of year again!!!  It is time for our awesome adventure into the mission field.  We will once again be heading down to the coast to help out our friends who are still putting things back in order from the hurricanes.  We took down a great group last year and had a few other college groups from other campuses across the nation join forces with us.  We will be doing the same thing again this year by having other groups join us as well.

Everyone is welcome!

I am not sure just how big a winter fan you are or not, but to me it means that football season is just about to get good!  So far our BEARS are off to a 3-1 start in this inaugural season of Division I football.  They have another home game this coming weekend as S. Dakota will be visiting Estes Stadium.  The game time has been pushed to 2 pm to give everyone more time to tailgate!!!  Also this week we have BROOM HOCKEY!!!  We will leave from the church building Fri night to head to LR to hop on the ice and go head to head in an extremely fun game!!!  Invite anyone and everyone you can, because this is something you don’t want to miss!  Also Fri afternoon the Sugar Bears volleyball team are in action at the Prince Center here on campus.  I had never been into volleyball until attending one of their games and I have to say…intense!  Its a fast paced, serious air, spiking it down you throat, diving across the floor, game that you can’t help but get into.  Plus the Sugar Bears head coach Steve McRoberts happens to be a member of our church here at University, so its nice to show him encouragement in his daily life!

Monday at noon stop by the CCSU house on campus and grab some free lunch at the Bear Feed.  Monday night is a co-ed softball game beginning at 6:30 out at Don Owens.  Immediately following is the guys and girls bible study.

Wednesday night is our weekly “Cleft of the Rock” where we are learning to coming into the very presence of God to be changed.

Thursday night we are on campus for our weekly devotional beginning at 7 pm.
